An
Edo based body of professionals, under the aegis of Unuedo Foundation, has
warned Governor Adams Oshiomhole against selling the Edo House complex on
Victoria Island, Lagos, saying “it could generate as much as N200m annually if
professionally managed”. The group also noted that apart from housing the Edo
State Governor’s Lodge, the property accommodates the Edo State Liaison Office.
The
President of the foundation, Mr. Lawson Omokhodion, and Secretary, Kingsley
Ighomwenghian, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, also pointed out that the
property was in a prime location with immense present and future possibilities
that should excite its owners. Unuedo, however, advised that Oshiomhole should
lease the property out on concession and the concessionaire be made to pay
market-determined returns annually to government while the government seeks
other sources of finance for its proposed five-star hotel and conference
centre.
The
group said, “It is suicidal for the Edo government to jeopardise the economic
future of the state by first selling Edo House and then seeking another $150m
loan through the United States Ambassador to build a hotel that will be a
non-starter. (Courtesy: PunchOnline)
